A tow-behind mower is a great option for commercial outfits such as landscaping or property management business. They are also great for property owners with quite a bit of land to maintain.
Below I have outlined what I believe to be the best Swisher tow behind mower and two other Swisher options.
Swisher FC14566CPKA 14.5HP 12V Kawasaki 66″ Commercial Pro Trail Mower Trailmower
A lot of tow-behind mowers can be a chore to start. They often come with heavy-duty pulling cords that are challenging, to say the least. The Finish Cut features a 12-volt key start making it easy and dependable.
The Finish Cut has a universal hitch and can be attached to an ATV, tractor, or utility vehicle. You can also increase cutting time drastically by attaching this to your lawn tractor.
The FC14566CPKA is the largest tow behind the mower Swisher makes. It is mighty and well constructed. Some customers report using the Finish Cut in a foot of wet grass without it ever bogging down!
Swisher RC14552CPKA 14.5HP 12V Kawasaki 52″ Commercial Pro Rough Cut trail cutter, Black
The cutting deck measures 52 inches and has a rear discharge, unlike the Finish Cut, which has a side discharge. Cutting height can be adjusted up to 7 inches with 3 different positions: 4″, 5.5″, and 7″. I should also mention, this model can cut brush up to 3 inches in diameter.
Like the Finish Cut, the Rough Cut can attach to an ATV or lawn tractor, reducing the cutting time by nearly that of a typical lawn and garden tractor alone.
If you have quite a lawn to maintain, such as an acre or more, the Rough cut is a great additional choice. It may not be as powerful as the Finish Cut, but it gets the job done. It will not produce a finish cut as this is a “rough cut” mower. Nevertheless, it’s a great option for those with large land areas to maintain, such as a ranch.
FC10544CL – Swisher Classic 44″ 10.5 HP Finish Cut Trail Mower
The FC10544CL has a 10.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine and has a cutting deck width of 44 inches. It has a single-point cutting height adjustment and features a rear discharge. There’s also left to right offset hitch adjustment, making it easy to mow under trees or in ditches.
A nice feature of this model is the bumper rollers. The bumper rollers protect trees and shrubs from any damage that might otherwise occur during mowing.
The turning radius is not the greatest on this model. It is ideal to have plenty of room to turn around to avoid damaging the lawn. It is, however, fuel-efficient, and a full tank will allow for roughly an acre and a half worth of cutting.
If you’re looking for a smaller tow behind mower instead of the 66 inches but still want that finish cut professional look, the FC10544CL is a good choice.
There is definitely a difference between a rough cut and a finish cut tow behind the mower. A finish cut provides a more thorough and professional-looking cut, and a rough cut while still providing a quality cut does not produce the same look.
As rough-cut mowers go, the Swisher RC14552CPKA is definitely a top contender. However, the Swisher FC14566CPKA is top of the line. It has more than enough HP, and the three-blade system produces an extremely well-defined cut.
There are numerous brands of mowers to choose from. I believe Swisher to be among the best for tow behind and zero-turn mowers.
