Lawn management demands both money and effort. However, if not avoid, you can limit this if you will choose the right tools for the maintenance and preservation of your lawn. One of the steps for lawn care is dethatching. It brings the debris and other unwanted materials to the soil’s surface for disposal for the oxygen, moisture, water, and nutrients to reach the roots. Traditionally, dethatching your lawn entails renting gas-powered units, using rakes, or even hiring a lawn care service provider.
Overview
The electric dethatcher cuts a 14-in swath in a single pass. Three depth adjustments are -9mm, -3mm, or +3mm. It is set by pulling and turning the knob into the setting that you may deem fit. It was designed this way because lawns have different needs. Why do we need it? Some need regular maintenance, while others need extensive dethatching.
Special Features
The machine comes with a lock-off switch.
The lock-off switch will stop the machine when you need to. It is also designed for the safety of the user and power efficiency. Further, the machine also comes with a collection bag. The collection bag is made for capturing dead grass and other debris for easy disposal.
Easy to Use
To start the machine is fairly easy. I just pushed the start button and pulled back the handle to get it going. The two-step manner was designed to secure the safety of the user and to prevent accidental start-up. The electric dethatcher was made for working over rough patches.
It is 12 Amp powered, which is a bit stronger than others. It can uproot the plant matters and debris on the soil. The 3 depth adjustments enabled me to remove the debris above and below the ground. It can dethatch different lawns in different circumstances effectively. The machine is highly efficient and an easy solution to have a healthier and greener lawn.
It can easily remove build-up debris that prevents nutrients from reaching the soil. Further, I no longer have to dwell with traditional raking, which entails more physical activity and can cause back problems. This is an easy alternative to the problems of debris build-up in a household lawn. This is also best if you want to get the job done in half the time but at the same time to have a great-looking yard.
Compact yet Powerful
It weighs less than 20 lbs. and easy to maneuver. Even if it is 12 Amp powered and can dethatch up to 14 inches, it features a very compact design. Its foldable handles make it easy to transport and store. I can safely keep it in my garage or trunk since products like this are only used once or twice a year.
Further, even if it is powerful, it is easier to push. My lawn needed at least two passes of the machine to accumulate all of the debris, but that was not a problem because this machine is lightweight. It may not be self-propelled but pushing it is not that hard because the materials are light.
Drawbacks
The collection bag is so small that it can only accumulate little debris from the soil. It fills way too quickly and needs to be emptied after one pass or two on the lawn. I prefer not to use the collection bag. Instead, I used a rake and picked the debris up afterward.
The machine also has some overheating issues. After three to five passes on the lawn, the machine will overheat, and then it will stop. I needed to cool it down first for at least 30 minutes before turning it back on. It made the job quite harder and a hassle. The handle of the machine is also quite high, and it cannot be adjusted. I am quite short, and the handle is not at a comfortable level.
Do I need this device?
This product is not my cup of tea. Although dethatching lawn is a chore, for persons like me who don’t like to navigate heavy devices, I prefer something self-propelled. This machine requires its users to exert more physical effort, especially if the lawn is sloped or uneven.

However, despite this slight downside, the machine still does the job of effectively removing the thatch and other debris from the lawn. Is the device worth it? Weighing the benefits and drawbacks of this electric dethatcher, this is still a great deal. With the benefits and features it offers, the price of this is low and reasonable. You can save much more money than hiring someone to dethatch your lawn or rent a unit that costs almost the same as owning a new one.
Conclusion
This is a good bargain, but the manufacturer should consider suggestions of users to improve the efficacy and use thereof because in achieving a beautiful lawn, you should have the right tool to make the job easier and less hassle. Overall, I would recommend the machine. It does work fine, but there is room for improvement.
