Zoysia vs Bermuda – Grass Comparison

If you want to make the budget lawn, you should consider these grasses: Zoysia, Bermuda, and Fescue. Today we talk about the first two types because they are prevalent and cheap; find the pros and cons of both and choose the best one.

Pros of Zoysia Grass

Zoysia Grass vs. Bermuda
Zoysia Grass

Zoysia is a warm-weather grass that also tolerates cold weather well. It needs 6-8 hours of sun per day and doesn’t require difficult maintenance. But the main problem with this grass is no green color in early spring and deep fall.

  • Can grow in the shadow places
  • Drought tolerant
  • You don’t need much fertilization.

Cons of Zoysia Grass

  • No year-round color
  • Slow growth. The best result will be in 2-3 years.

Pros of Bermuda Grass

Bermuda Grass vs. Zoysia Grass
Bermuda Grass

Bermuda grass is a warm-weather grass, too, but it is required as much sun as possible if you have trees, bushes, or other places on the yard with many shadows, this grass not for your lawn.

  • Grows very fast
  • Resilient to a lot of traffic

Cons of Bermuda Grass

  • Aggressive grass. Grows like a weed
  • Cold-Intolerant
  • I wouldn’t say I like other types of grasses. Bermuda consumes them.

What Is The Main Difference Between Bermuda & Zoysia Grasses?

Zoysia and Bermuda are both warm-season grasses, but only Zoysia has cold- and shadows tolerance. Also, Zoysia is universal and cheap grass for the budget lawn.

What Should I Use For The Budget Lawn

Between these two grasses, I prefer Zoysia. I recommend looking at the other types of grasses for lazy lawns.

When Do I Need To Use Bermuda?

If you want fast results and see the green lawn as soon as possible on the sun yard, Bermuda is your choice. It is also a great grass for mini-golf clubs and sport yards (but Bermuda is not used as a monotype grass).
